BTEC Performing Arts

The BTEC extended diploma in Performing Arts Practice is a two-year, accredited course that is the equivalent to three A Levels, perfect for students who want to enter the performing arts industry. The content of this qualification has been developed in consultation with academics to ensure that it supports progression to higher education. In addition, employers and professional bodies have been involved and consulted in order to confirm that the content is appropriate and consistent with current practice should learners choose to enter employment directly in the performing arts sector.

The qualification provides the knowledge, skills and understanding that will prepare learners for further study or training. On top of the BTEC qualification itself, KTCo have designed a drama-school style timetable that will give students the full performing arts experience. From commercial dance to acting through song, performance jazz and conditioning and more.

The cohort will undertake 4 modules across two years:

Module A – ‘Performing Arts Skills Development’ – Within this module there are 3 units, which focus on personal training development and progression. Assessment in this module consists of live performance work and video log books.

Module F – ‘The Performing Arts Industry’ takes a look at social networking, employment opportunities, various career avenues, branding and more. Assessment in this module consists of a presentation.

Module G – ‘Personal Performing Arts Profile’ – This module focuses on personal development in your second year of training. More specifically, on personal statements, CVs, individual performance work, show reels and goals. Assessment in this module consists of live performance work, creation of a show reel and video logs.

Module H – ‘Collaborative Performing Arts Project’ – The final module of our BTEC Performing Arts Course will see students work towards their final showcase, exploring both creative and technical roles. This will include an insight to Choreography, Producing, Scheduling…the list goes on. Assessment in this module consists of collaborative live performances and video logs.

Each academic year is concluded by a showcase that students will be marked on as contribution to their overall BTEC grade.

The whole BTEC qualification is internally assessed.

Students are required to gain 5 GCSEs grade 4 and above, including Maths & English to secure their place after an audition.
